Africa Classic Escapes

The Rwenzoris are often referred to as the Mountains of the Moon, as mentioned by Ptolemy in AD150. But there is no firm evidence for this association.
The range is about 120 km wide at its broadest point and its highest peak, Mount Stanley, rises to 5,109 metres and is permanently covered in snow. In Africa, only Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya are similarly snowcapped all year round.

The first known ascent to summit was undertaken by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Today, however, the Rwenzori attracts mountain climbers and hill walkers from across the world to enjoy the pleasure of hiking at high altitude.
